Not all cutting edge developments happen in academia: we talk to the people taking quantum technology out of the lab and into the real world, and explore the challenges faced in building products for the quantum ecosystem.

Quantum technology is rapidly moving from a purely academic idea to a big business, with huge amounts of money being invested into startups promising to deliver everything from quantum computing hardware, to supporting software and training in how other businesses can best make use of these new developments. But getting this experimental new technology out of the lab is tricky at best, and using it to turn a profit can be even harder. We’ll talk to some of the people working on these challenges, and hear about the unique advantages that come with working on quantum technology in a non-academic setting, as well as the wide range of possible careers open to those with a background in quantum mechanics.
